"WHO THE HELL IS THIS GUY? HOW CAN HE
WRITE SUCH GREAT SHIT AND GET IT PRINTED? WHERE
HAS HE BEEN HIDING ALL MY LIFE?"

I'm pretty sure that this is an exact quote from me the first time I read bukowski.:D

When I first read him, I screamed: "This Bukowski of the tight and bloody line. I had never been told about him. Why the secret? Why wasn't he advertised?" - And then, this bastard Bukowski came along and used that line in one of his novels!

It started as a mistake...I first read Bukowski around 1976, when my son was born.
I viewed his books as my husband's stuff, along with his drum tobacco, cigarette paper and his heavy consumption of alcohol.
I read a few lines and put it down and most likely said to my partner
"shit, no wonder we're in it knee deep!". I got the "WoW" much later.:o

How about David Barker, and thanks, Stephen, for remembering the ghost of Harry Calhoun. I have been known to do a review now and then, but I didn't do that one. :-)
