That Dream You Had Last Night. (1 Viewer)

I have to say, I've always been curious about dreams. I don't remember them like I used to--and I miss that.

I once had a dream where I had a job as a parking lot barker (which I don't think is real) and my job was to get people to park in the spaces my boss owned. It was a typical strip mall kind of location, and each shop had a few alloted spaces. The rule, as best as I could tell, was people could park in the spot as long as they patronized the store who owned it...which meant that each shop had a barker like me. I had to run around, and convince people to park in my spaces instead of someone else's. And there were lot barker alliances, and shady under-the-table deals...and being the new guy, I wasn't part of any of them, so my job was even harder. The rest of the barkers were all working against me, and my boss was furious...they all "traded spots" and shared business and tips and so forth...so I could never get anyone to park in my spots. Or, if I did, they stayed parked for hours, and I couldn't turn them over fast enough. I woke up and was exhausted...and had to go to work. That dream sucked.

So let's hear it--tell us about a dream you had and what made it memorable.

As a child, I used to fly a lot in my dreams, and the nights that I was able to fly, I had a strange feeling as I fell asleep. It filled me with excitement and joy.

I got very good at it. I could feel my body lifting and I could move it where I wanted to go. At first, I practiced around the house. I would visit the different rooms.

I concluded that I would eventually be able to leave to family house and visit different places where I was not normally allowed to go.

Once, I floated along the lake and I could see the people below. I floated at night time as must as I could. As I got older, that privilege disappeared. That is when I started looking for alternatives.

Starting in the late 60s I had a recurring dream about a B52 bomber colliding with a large cargo jet above a field by the Officer's Club at Minot AFB. It always seemed to be slower than normal and the two dark green jets would make a loud crack sounding explosion when they collided and then fell. It wouldn't always wake me and I always felt the panic and horror of it.
The strangest thing about the dream was B52s and C141s at Minot AFB were white and silver in the late 60s and weren't camouflage green until years later when I was assigned to fly on B52s. Needless to say my short time in the Air Force was quite stressful to say the least.

I used to have a lot of nuclear bomb dreams, but instead of a giant one going off in the center of the city, they were small ones that went off down the block one house at a time, so you could see them approaching and knew when your house was about to hit. You could run away from it, but you'd still die from the fallout. I'd have to watch the houses go up in little mushroom clouds while I'd try to decide which way I wanted to go out.

Pleasant!

Hosh -- that's no dream; it's all true. We parking lot Barkers are all like that. It's an ugly business. I learned it from my dad and he learned it from his dad, all the way back to the horse and buggy days.

My dreams are almost always set in some ruined post-apocalypse landscape of broken asphalt, caved in vacant buildings, twisted barb wire fences, and I'm usually looking for something I never, ever find. This has been going on most my life. Before that, I had the flying dreams, but they revealed more than I could have known at the age of 4 (like how the surface of the Earth is curved and if you see it from 50,000 feet, it's no longer night although there are stars above because you can see the sun peeking up from the horizon.)

Yes--flying dreams...man, I had tons of those as a kid. They were nothing short of amazing...I would usually start off jumping, and then, I was jumping higher and higher, and if I worked it right, it turned into flying. Over huge trees and buildings...my god, they were so terrific. It's been years since I had one too...that's very sad.

I remember some nuclear bomb dreams too...staring out a window, seeing the explosion, and watching the blastwave approach--then bolting awake.

I used to have really vivid fighting dreams too...getting jumper by a bunch of people, and beat up...

I forgot how much fun dreams were! Any ideas on how to make them come back? The last vivid dreams I remember having were on perscription cough syrup a couple years ago...

I love those flying dreams except, learning how to "control" them also means recognizing that they are dreams. And that means waking up pretty soon after sailing around for a bit. At least that's how it's been for me. I wish I had never learned that technique...

I have one reoccurring dream that has been with me ever since I attended a party at a friend's house. She had moved in with her grandmother, who was partially disabled. They had decided to put in a second bathroom (actually a 1/2 bath, just toilet and sink). As it turned out, the main sewer pipe ran under the stairs, which connected the kitchen to the basement. The plumbing contractor said it would be easier and much cheaper to install right there at the top of the stairs. Since Grandma was not very mobile and liked to hang in the kitchen anyway, they decided to build right there at the top of the stairs. After pissing in that toilet - with a kitchen full of party guests right on the other side of the door and an open stairway at my back - I haven't been the same dream-wise. I'm haunted by scenarios where I really have to go and the only toilets available are "semi-private". Toilets underneath escalators in shopping malls. Toilets in Wal-Mart changing rooms. Toilets right behind the curtain at award dinners. Yikes !

It's all very Freudian and fear-based, but I feel better for having talked about it now.
Thank you for letting me unload here. (Ha - get it ?)

Like Gerard, I also had a recurring dream as a child where two huge steel masses, shaped like bombs are moving towards each other, moving extreeeemely slowly in space. When they are about to touch at a precise point they is an extraordinary loud sound that fills my head and I wake up terrified. It would leave a taste of metal in my mouth.

Another dream that I have had for many years is that I am looking for a specific place. I go down streets and look at houses. Then I recognize the door. Once I go in, they are a lot a people in it and I get an absolute feeling of bliss. It is as if I have finally arrived to the place where I am supposed to be. A good friend who passed away used to repeat to me that Ataraxia ( that is what he called that place) was not a place but a state of mind. I have a very restless mind.

As a child, those flying dreams were real to me. I would tell my friends that I could fly. Once, I was at the top of some stairs and I was literally going to try to jump. Something made me hesitate, I'm still here.

If I was a writer, I would set my alarm for the middle of the night, every night and set it to wake me up every half hour or so. That would give you some amazing and strange stories to write about.

I find that my dreams involve people playing roles. I may see my wife, but she is not my wife, she is playing the role of a customer, or my boss, or my dad. It is almost always an off match, but my mind never seems to tell me that it is odd that I am calling my wife, Dad. I may also see my dad as one of my kids and he will act like one of my kids.

Maybe it's the influence of this thread, but last night I dreamed I was at a party of poets, artists, editors and printers at Bill Roberts' house. I stood on a chair and was going through the upper shelves of his bookcase when I came across a large sheet of paper. It was a work of art: a combination drawing and photo collage printed in blueprint (cyanotype). There was an image of a woman's face in the center, with some small photos below, and words handwritten above the woman. It seemed to be art for a book cover. A lovely piece. I laid it out on the table beside me, with people eating and drinking all around, and I was careful not to get it soiled. Then I turned to talk to Bill who was sitting on my right, and when I turned back, a woman poet (Ann M.) had gotten up from the table, and thought the drawing was a napkin. She had folded it and wiped down the table with it, and now it was wet and had stains and creases. Bill was upset. Not angry, but he really liked that art. I said I'd buy it, but it wasn't for sale. I thought maybe I could clean and restore it, work out the folds. That's where the dream ended. Otherwise, a nice party, Bill. Sorry, Ann. I should have warned you about the art being there.

i used to have alot of lucid dreams. they were fantastic but i haven't had them in awhile. i'll never forget a
dream i had where i got shot in the chest with a shotgun and felt myself fade to black and die which woke
me up instantly in a panic. also many dreams of treading water in an ocean just waiting for the shark to
appear.

I forgot how much fun dreams were! Any ideas on how to make them come back?

don't smoke doobs - if you do. i never dream or remember them when i do.

Last night I dreamed that while I was asleep in bed, MJP - who I previously thought was sleeping next to me - was really up all night drinking beer and martinis, and eating popcorn and chips with Pam (Cupcakes) in our living room. They were making a giant mess all over the floor and watching Clint Eastwood movies. I got up out of bed and MJP then seemed to want to rush Pam out the door and gave her a rather long goodbye kiss. Then we sort of argued a little about the timing of the kiss and what qualifies as an innocent and a romantic kiss. Then I realized he was just drunk.

Great dream. You're very tolerant. Many women would be enraged, and the length of the kiss would be irrelevant. Being drunk might keep it out of divorce court, but the husband would still be in trouble.

I thought for many years that I had more memorable dreams the night before I got stoned but actually I think smoking pot slows your brain down enough to remember your dreams. Try it. Wake up tomorrow and fire up some weed and you'll remember your dreams. Wake and bake, as the kids say.

Had a few that were similar in content when I was younger - similar, too, in that they are still vivid to this day. Involved animals at play in typically human manner - mice on roller skates, bears dancing with hula hoops, raccoons playing volleyball. The dreams would always follow the same course - I'd sneak up and take delight in watching them at their leisure, I'd invariably make a noise of some sort to draw their attention, their faces would transform hideously in to bulging eyes and elongated fangs and they would give chase. And the dreamscape laws of physics only added to the fun.

I had a dream the other night about a civil revolt starting among hunters and survivalists on the Oregon Coast, their code word was "Blue Shield." I overheard a bum who was living in a tent in my front yard talking about it with an old construction worker next door. But the strange part was when I went to tell my wife about it. She was suddenly two years old, in a pink baby dress, but continued to speak like an adult, and so I picked her up in my arms and carried her around, saying "we better prepare for this revolution, stock up on food and water, maybe get guns and ammo..."

I think that your partner owes you a nice romantic dinner and a very long kiss.

I die often in my dreams. My last dream I had seen something shady going down, men in suits loading something into a van. Instinctively knowing that this was something I was not meant to see I turned around and walked away. I was approached by one of these suited men, a black man who looked a mixture of Jimi Hendrix and Lenny Cravets. He handed me a wad of cash and before I could finish saying "I won't say a word to anyone" someone else had approached all in the same while trying to spew out these words and walk away from this Jimi Cravets looking fellow, he had swung in front of me with a gun pointed at my head and fired. I believe I fell to my kness, everything went black... I could hear Jimi saying to the other man, "see what you made me do!" the voices were drifting away and all that went through my mind was my son the pain of him being left behind without his father. Anger of being murdered by a complete stranger... As I was waiting to pass on to "the other side" everything fell silent and suddenly I could hear myself breathing and that's when I opened my eyes to find myself in my bed.

I had also used to experiment with a psychedelic tea that would enhance my dreams. Wild dreams of flying through the solar system on comets. Dying and being reincarnated into a super alien god traveling the universes. Pure bliss.

I had experienced some sort of sleep paralysis once, it was one of the most terrifying experiences I've ever had. A couple months after experimenting with DXM I had woke up in my bed and couldn't move and there is some horrifying creature standing across the room in human form, I tried screaming HELP HELP HELP HELP!!!!!! but could not. This creature had walked over to me and sat on my chest with its head facing the direction it came from, staring across the room he slowly turned his head to look me in the eyes. One eye seemed to be of a cats and the other a vortex to a strange dimension, the whole time I'm trying to scream HELP! then suddenly the word came hollering out of my mouth, the creature had vanished and I could move all at once just like that!

For those of us a little more down to earth: DXM
DXM is also used recreationally. When exceeding label-specified maximum dosages, dextromethorphan acts as a dissociative hallucinogen. Its mechanism of action is via multiple effects, including actions as a nonselective serotonin reuptake inhibitor[citation needed] and a sigma-1 receptor[citation needed] agonist and the action of its major metabolite dextrorphan as an NMDA receptor antagonist, producing effects similar to those of the controlled substances ketamine and phencyclidine (PCP).[2]

...and phencyclidine (PCP)

I had a dream a few days ago that I was in a mountain cabin with my kids and another adult or two (can't remember who) when there was a nuclear explosion some distance away. I saw a bright flash, followed about 30 seconds later by a hot wind. I don't have any further memory of it after this. The funny thing was that I didn't feel any fear but was intently interested in what was going to happen next.

Look into it some more and you'll find that scientists have committed suicide after experimenting with such drugs in belief to be united with some sort of alien race. I chuckle at the idea of it, I figure it's all some sort of hallucination, delusions of a psychotropic mind. But like hell does the energy of my essence shudder in absolute horror after such unusual psychedelic experiences.

I've had the paralyzing dream before--not good times.

Here's 3 nightmares I had that've stuck with me over the years.

That log cabin, knife finger one still gets to me...mainly because I cast myself as a monster in my own dream.
Have you ever read into sleep paralysis? It's some creepy stuff... people awakening in deserts completely paralyzed, 100 times a year for years on end.

I have and likely always will have horrifically vivid dreams about brutality. I do sometimes have pleasant dreams about being able to breath under water. I have been trying to sharpen my lucid dreaming skills and it seems to be working. I have conversations that leave me awestruck in my dreams. The more I sharpen these skills the less nightmares I have. More control before, during and after the dream I suppose. Hmm..

i dreamt last nite that the ceiling was leaking, the house was crawling with ants and my mouth
was full of broken glass.

wtf?

Me too. They must have read an overdose of Lovecraft.

I had a great 'deja vu' moment last Summer in Boston. I was coming back from drinking with Purple Stickpin, had just gotten off the subway and was making my way back to my hotel when I saw this red wall. I'm staring at the wall and thinking "Fuck, I've seen this before. But where?" and I'm pretty sure in a dream. I'm almost positive. maybe it was the booze or the roofie that PS slipped me, I don't know. it doesn't matter really, because it was just a cool moment.

Okay beat this! I had a dream I was watching a porno with a few people, one being my dad! We were both so totally uncomfortable!!!!! I was so fucking relieved when I woke up.

This might send the thread hurtling out of control, but here goes: I had a fairly distrubing dream about a week ago wherein this new dance-craze-kind-of-assault thing called "buttfusion" was sweeping the nation. "What's "buttfusion," you ask? It's a kind of stealth attack, surprise congo line thing. Seems harmless, right? WRONG! What would soon come to be this forboding, haunting German-techno kind of music is what tipped the viewer off that "buttfusion" was happening...somewhere nearby. At first it seemed really funny...<the rise of a throbbing baseline>, then this chanting, building from a whisper--"Buttfusion, Buttfusion!....Buttfusion, Buttfusion!..." Then a ravenous, leathery sex horde would emerge from an alleyway, or from under some quicksand (I know, I know--it's getting crazy)...and it was only then that I realized if they grabbed you, you were "fused" by the horde (against your will)...and it shifted from whimsy to terror--like when those hot ghostly spirits turned to skull-faced murderesses who melted Nazi faces in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I woke up laughing...but only because it was utterly terrifying.
And I was glad to be alive.
And un-fused.

Ok, now that I've typed it out, I guess it's pretty clear I need a shrink.

poem written upon waking up laughing
from a nightmare of being forcibly buttfused
by a gang of leather clad german techo dancers...

dearest fat baby
Buddha, please oh please tell me
that was a bad dream.

I had a dream last Friday night that mjp was murdered by a disgruntled troll on the side of the street in a quiet suburban neighborhood. It had me filled with the tension and stress of being around a violent altercation. Some of the people around the incident didn't seem to be surprised it had happened and almost seemed too calm about it. The uneasy feeling of the dream hung on me for a couple of days. It was almost like post traumatic stress syndrome. Those fucking trolls, and they were heroin addicts too. I didn't notice if I had my butt fused nor do I remember any creepy German guys but it was a creepy dream.

I haven't, so I wonder has anyone had a dream that included a computer?
or a TV come to think of it
Or I can hide my age and add or an iphone or a dream that included texting????
It was a nightma e I couldn't push the lette...r
