i was just going to ask if anyone had seen in bruges too. i didn't like it. i thought it could have been fantastic, and there were performances i liked (i actually liked brendan gleeson better than colin farrel), but i thought the movie tried too hard to be an allegory about redemption, guilt, blah blah blah. plus, while scene stealing, ralph fiennes didn't really add anything new to the unhinged british gangster stock character.

Gleeson was excellent...Fiennes overacted a bit, but have to disagree with you on your overall impression of the movie. I loved it...thought it worked well.

Just watched Hearts of Darkness, the documentary on the making of "Apocalypse Now." It really shows how much Coppola risked making the film. The scene where Sheen has a breakdown in his hotel room is pretty amazing...along with the fact that he had a real life heart attack soon after.

I've caught a couple of good films recently. 'Zodiac' which was another fine film from David Fincher, the docu-film 'American Hardcore' about the 80's early hardcore punk scene and a couple of films by some German bloke called Werner Herzog 'Fitzcarraldo' and 'Aguirre, the wrath of God'.

British horror/black comedy The Cottage. Not comic like Shaun of the Dead, but worth watching if you like Chainsaw type slashers.

Gosh I'm so used to no one ever hearing of these great Korean movies that I assumed it wouldn't be on this thread! But lo and behold - I've proven the old assumption cliche true!

Prior to this movie, The Pillow Book was my fave. Absolutely gorgeous cinematography.

i highly, highly recommend seeing Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson. very well made documentary that focuses on his most productive years(late 60's, 70's).

I have that on a fairly old VHS tape, yet it still plays when I put it in. Very good. Indeed.

finally bought this one today and watched it tonight. I was putting it off because I hate goodbyes. if the cliche fits...

it's excellent. when it hit his tenure with the Mescaleros, near the end, I started crying like a baby. I'm still crying. I'm sure I'll stop soon.
